some of you know of my trip to new orleans last year. mark and i had talked about honeymooning there this year. we hadn't set any plans because we were strapped for cash.
we were both heartbroken over the stories of pain and devastation, so we gave a little and encourage you to do the same. every little bit helps.

vest pictures
mark bought a brand spanking new hot little digital number on one of his trips to amsterdam. i covet it. it's a konica minolta 5 megapixel jammie and i used it to take these pictures:
i think these are far better than the pictures my old digital took.
in knitting news, tomorrow i start on the right front of the vest. mark will be off and travelling again as of friday. he is flying to copenhagen for a week, and then to amsterdam for another. i am foreseeing a long holiday weekend involving wedding crafts and knitting, and many tv-less but knitting filled nights in my future.

my wedding invites and directions cards
i outlined the process i used to complete my wedding invites. i didn't design the invite itself, but did add several of my own special touches. you can read about it here...

shawl & vest progress
i'm ridiculously pleased with myself. i am now up to row 130 on the garden shawl after a marathon knitting session on saturday. it was just me and tolkien (on tape) cruising along. i managed 12 rows before my hands started aching, so i paid attention to my body and quit while i was ahead. i wound up knitting two more rows on sunday, though, and am planning on knitting on it every evening. slow but steady.
the left front of the vest is also coming along rather nicely. i've got about 60 rows to go before it is finished, but since i'm decreasing every few rows for the v-neck, the knitting is going pretty quickly. i plan to finish the left front this week.
it's really good seeing the progress on my wedding projects. i'm actually thinking that i may finish them in time!

iknitiative shrug
for those who have been asking, i ordered the pattern from the purl online store: http://store.purlsoho.com/purl
it's really really easy... i restarted in alpaca cloud smoke and am up to row 34. and… it is turning out gorgeous to boot!

mark knew
mark knew when the wedding had consumed me. i didn't rush out to be the first to buy knitting books or magazines. i turned down opportunities to buy yarn. i mumbled incoherently about a VEST and SHAWL that MUST. BE. FINISHED.
sigh. progress is definitely being made on the vest. 60 more rows until the left front is complete, and that's after a marathon (for me) session today.
the shawl looks dicier by the minute. i haven't knit a damned row. encourage me, would you? kick my ass into gear!

shaping the armhole
i'm 8 rows away from doing the armhole shaping on the front left vest. i need to work more steadily on this project as i realize that there are only -- gulp! -- 88 days left until the wedding. can you say crafting over time?
i still have so much to do. there is embroidery to be done and ring pouches to be made, in addition to finishing my shawl and mark's vest. there is also all the paper stuff -- programs, and basket notes and lots of miscellany. oh my head throbs to think of it. but it will get done... it's important enough to me to curtail all other activities. i want to finish these projects and i know i can if i work hard enough.

my cheating heart
Your cheatin' heart will make you weep
You'll cry and cry and try to sleep
But sleep won't come the whole night through
Your cheatin' heart will tell on you
that's the song that the garden shawl is singing. why you ask?
because i started this:
it's the tsubasa shrug, from iknitiative. i started it in knitpicks shimmer -- the maple leaf colorway, which i'd purchased in january.
since casting on this sunday, i've already completed one pattern repeat (20 rows) and could keep going, except for the pangs of guilt i feel. you see, this is s not a particularly complicated knit. in fact it's only got two "lace" rows and is knit on huge needles. well, size 9 feels huge to me these days. and i could feasibly wear it to my wedding instead of the garden shawl. and whereas the garden shawl is a tour de force of lace knitting, the tsubasa shrug does not need incredible amounts of concentration to knit. in fact, the knitting itself is pretty mindless.
my poor garden shawl has not been getting the attention she deserves. but i have decided to go stop my cheating ways and go back to her, since i don't like the way the yarn colors are pooling in tsubasa. i have some smoky grey alpaca cloud that would suit tsubasa better but i am going to strongly resist winding that up and restarting tsubasa.
strongly resist. yep. sit on my hands i will rather than wind that lovely alpaca cloud into a ball. yep. garden, i hear you calling me but you are so demanding...
as for mark's vest, i'm up to row 80. at row 112, i can decrease for the armhole shaping and the knitting will go faster. if my gauge is still correct, it will be a total of 192 rows for each front half. i've been working on the vest at night also, and made a good deal of progress on it on sunday night. after i flirted with tsubasa by casting on and knitting 4 rows, that is.

progress
sorry for the lack of photos. my camera's batteries died last week and i still have not gotten around to changing them. it seems to be the story of my life these days. things fall apart and it takes me forever to fix them.
i have been making progress on my knitting though. i'm on row 52 of the left front of the vest. the back took 196 rows, so i'm roughly 25% done. i've been mainly working on the vest while commuting, but that will change next week. i'm going on a "no tv / no computer" diet until i get both the vest and shawl done.
i worked on the garden shawl while at knit club last night. the amount of concentration it takes to keep from making a mistake is somewhat astounding. and the rows are getting longer and longer, so there are more repeats per row. fortunately, there are only 40 (long!) rows left. my goal is to do two rows every evening. i'll kick mark out of the kitchen and sit at the table and concentrate on the pattern. i want to finish the shawl by the end of august at the latest so i need to get cranking.
